Browsing effects presets in Windows dialog box
on May 4, 2017 at 4:41:29 pm

Instead of browsing AE effects presets using Bridge, I'd like to set it back to a Windows dialog box on one machine in particular. Anyone know how to get it back to that functionality?

Running AE 2015.2 build 13.7.1.6 on a Win 7 machine. Not my machine, so making other changes and updates isn't an option.

System:
Dell Precision T7600 (x2)
Win 7 64-bit
32GB RAM
Adobe CC 2015.02 (as of 6/2016)
256GB SSD system drive
4 internal media drives RAID 5
Typically cutting short form from HD MP4 and P2 MXF.

Highlight a panel, then go Window>Effects & Presets. Or use cmd/ctl - 5, depending on the platform.
You'll get the categorized list. That's what you're after, right?

I never liked Bridge, anyway......

Glad to help.

So what do you think of this SBG move to automatic Adobe updates, Jon? It happens after the May book. I for one am really scared. I think it's a risky move.

I'm trying to squeeze in using Collect Files for all my evergreen AE projects, and backsaving as far as I can. I'll need help getting back to CS 5.5 -- which I happen to have on the home machine -- but I haven't seen ANYTHING come out of the Home Office that couldn't be done in CS 5.5. I'll be damned if I'll be left in a lurch.

I hadn't heard they were going to fire up auto update. I believe I will join you in being very concerned. And also hang on to one of the older installs as well.

I don't want to be a Beta tester, not while doing every-day work.

[Jon Doughtie] "I don't want to be a Beta tester, not while doing every-day work."

Amen to that!
Unfortunately, the Assistant Chief (and IT maven) and my boss, the Promotion Director, don't seem to share my worries. They think it's going to be great. I come from the school that says, "better to be safe than sorry".

[Jon Doughtie] "And also hang on to one of the older installs as well."

All I can do is ask the Assistant Chief to do that. Will it happen? It's not up to me. I'd have to remind her that you can have multiple versions of CC on your machine.
I run the most recent CC 2015. Amazingly, it runs well with very few malfunctions. Heck, I'd buy my own internal hard drive to have the system drive with the current install cloned.

We may very well reconvene on this topic in mid-June. Who knows if we'll be breathing sighs of relief or commiserating?
