I have a project coming up where I know I will be replacing a lot of signage in a busy airport.
We can not stop travelers from their normal paths, nor can we put up green/blue over the existing signage to pull a key.
I'm hoping to avoid tons of rotoscoping if at all possible. If I can get a clean background plate, is there any chance of pulling a successful difference key? The few times I have tried it I was not impressed. Other alternatives?
I for one have never seen a convincing-looking difference key. I've shot footage in a studio on a locked-down camera and I haven't gotten one to work. I've shot stills (with far larger pixel dimensions than video) in a studio on a locked-down camera and haven't gotten one to work.
The only time I've seen a good-looking difference key were in old AE user manuals (remember those?) that illustrated how the effect was supposed to work. I bet they faked it in Photoshop.
