Determining aperture from footage?
on Apr 5, 2017 at 11:02:07 pm

I am also a cinematographer when I'm not doing post work, and I was wondering if there was an easy way to determine what aperture was used in a scene by tracking the footage.

We're trying to mimic some styles, and I know 3D tracking can generate values for the focal lengths used in camera by analyzing movement in a scene and I was wondering if something similar could be done for aperture, thanks.

Unless that sort of information is included in the clip's metdata -- and you find an application that can access it -- the answer is "no". AE can't do it on its own. It could also be a good trick finding the appropriate camera, hardware and applications for the metadata's preservation.

Go old-school and keep a shot log on paper with the appropriate information.
