Hypot or other custom Blending Modes?
on Apr 5, 2017 at 7:14:06 pm

Working on a show today and I've been requested to copy a comp from Nuke to After Effects and hand it off to another department.

Our Nuke comp uses a Hypot blending mode/math which is:
sqrt(A*A+B*B)

I was using Add/Linear Dodge to get going, but it's totally washed out the image; I'd like to avoid grading the snot out of it now, but I may not have a choice.

I know I could stack precomps and do the multiplication and add merges (convoluted, but doable); but I can't do the square root part of that function.

Is there another way I'm not thinking of?

Thanks!
