NULL object follow animated mask

Hello,

I try to let a NULL object follow a animated mask but AE keeps crashing/freezing.

I generate a mask from a alpha channel (auto trace) copy the mask path postion and paste it into the postion of the NULL object. But AE seems to not like it, and keeps freezing. The mask animation is 3 sec. long in that try out version, later it will be much longer.

My aim is to let particle emitter along the mask path.

What Im doing wrong? Is there any workaround? Is it me or is it AE?

EDIT: OK it seems there is a collision between the path animation and the null object follow. I tried a very simple 5 point animated path and the null follows, but in a kind of weired way...

that is strange...maybe you could try selecting a point on the mask and going to layer-set first vertex and see if that helps at all.

Auto Trace creates scads of mask path vertices.... bazillions of 'em.
Even if the alpha channel is just a circle -- Auto Trace has no way of knowing it's a circle. The huge number of vertices is giving AE fits.
If there's any way you can reduce the number of vertices, your life is going to get a lot easier.
It might even be worth your while to take the time and make the mask yourself.

Here I did a quick screenshot video. First you can see short the mask my real try out project. The original will be much longer.

Hope that helps to understand whats not working here. It seems that the path double itself? The original and the animated?

Oh, you're trying to convert an ANIMATED mask to position keyframes!

Can't be done. You get just one mask, non-animated.

Thanks for your replay. Good to know.

OK than back to Plan B.
I just create a thin (out)line of a layer with two animated mask, and let particular use the thin line layer as a emitter.
I still prefer to have both option, but if it cant be done...it cant be done .. 😉

Ill post the final, once its done....
thx
