Slicing and Animating:
Hi,
Im looking at slicing and animating a logo but have not found an ideal way of doing this as yet.
I have sliced an .AI file using Illustrator but the results were less than perfect after i imported the composition.
Random positioning and edges of the slices looked slightly transparent.

I downloaded the DEMO of 'Slice it Up' After Effects Script but found it didn't offer the functionality that i was looking for.
Im looking to slice a logo into several slices and animate each in a 3D space.
Below is an excellent example of slicing and animating.
Any help greatly received.

Thank you in advance.

You really shouldn't have bothered splitting it in Illustrator when all you need are some masks in AE. If you're getting visible edges while it settles just animate a wipe as it sits in the final position, thus revealing one single unsplitted instance of the logo.

Those examples are really basic. If you can be more specific on what it is that you can't reproduce I'll try to assist you with it.

Thank you for your reply.
I want to split my logo in several pieces and animate each piece individually as it moves through a 3D space showing movement and shadows.
Splitting it in illustrator seemed the obvious solution but i wasnt happy with the results.

I wasnt aware i could animate 'Masks' to achieve a similar effect as i have never used masks in that way before.
Any help greatly received.

Thank you.

The default rectangular mask and shape tool (shortcut q) should easily slice the logo if you add a mask, duplicate the layer and move the top two vertices down. Keep doind that as many times you need/want to have several slices.

If you do that after you created that Y rotation of the logo, all you have to do is stagger the layers in time to create the procedural effect.

Add some lights and set the layers to receive/cast shadows and you're done.

Thank you Cassius. I have never used masks in this way before.
You have opened up another door for me.

Many thanks.
