Change timestamp of keyframe with expressions
on Mar 3, 2017 at 4:40:34 pm

Hi there,

I have following curve set to my keyframes

I want to change how long the animation pauses there in the middle with a slider.
So set it to 5 -> the pause is 5 seconds long
slider value set to 20 -> 20 second pause

Any ideas would be great,

Paul :)

Sorry, but expressions don't affect keyframes. They can USE keyframe information -- such as the Loop command -- but they can't move keyframes flawlessly along a timely as you propose.

Add two Slider Control effects to your layer. Name the first "delayStart" and the second "delayLength".

Set delayStart to the time (in seconds) where you want the animation to pause. Set delayLength to a value in seconds of how long you'd like to hold the animation.

Alt+click the stopwatch for your property and paste the following code:

delayStart = effect("delayStart")("Slider");
delayLength = effect("delayLength")("Slider")

if (time < delayStart) t = time
else if (time < delayStart+delayLength) t = delayStart
else t = time-delayLength;

thisProperty.valueAtTime(t);

As Dave mentions, this will not actually move the keyframes on the timeline. However, if you wish the see the expression-driven values in the graph editor, press this little button:
