Parenting a shape layer to another shape layer's shape path.

Sorry if the title sounds like a tongue twister, but I can't figure this one out.

I'm using a shape layer as a track matte and wanted to retain the stroke path, so I duplicated the layer, removed the fill, and parented it to the main shape.

The only way I can animated the scale of the shape layer without affecting the width of my stroke is to use the shape path controls instead of transform controls. The problem is that I can only seem to parent my shape layer duplicate to the transform controls.

Does anyone know how I could parent to the shape path?

Here's a picture of how I have it setup: http://imgur.com/a/jNdM8

Thanks!

You can't parent a shape layer's path as you want. A shape layer has no relation to the comp; it can only reference its horizontal & vertical size, which may have no bearing to the comp dimensions. However, you may be able to adjust the anchor point to let it follow the path. Or you may have to use an expression to do what you want, which gets more complicated.

Would be easier to use the rectangle path size and position controls on both layers and link them.
