 | Pause video

I have a project in which I need to hold the opening frame of an imported video footage, and the after a few seconds start the video playing. I resorted to doing a single frame render and dropping that ahead of the video, but it seems like a pretty klugy way to do things. Any thoughts o how to do this smarter?

You can use time remapping:
https://helpx.adobe.com/after-effects/using/time-stretching-time-remapping....
There is also a freeze frame command (under Layer > Time > Freeze Frame) which sets up time remapping on the currently selected layer(s) at the currently selected time to create a freeze frame, no render/re-import required.
