3D effect in Z stack
on Jul 11, 2014 at 8:33:09 am

Hi there,

I've been trying to crack this one for a day and a half now and wonder if someone could drop a clue...
Here's a good example of what I need:

As you can see there's an AE made 3D cube (for the sake of convenience let's call it Colored Cube) and a separate 3d stroked cube on top that reacts to 3D transformations. It also keeps the same width even when scaled. I've tried to create something similar using 3D stroke, Beam and Mask Avenger.
The problem: I can't find a way to combine both cubes (colored and stroked) in a way that makes sense. No matter what I try I always end up with a superimposed stroked cube on top of the colored cube, where the back strokes (the ones that are supposed to be hidden by the colored cube) are always visible. In essence, the stroke is a 2D effect, the colored cube is 3D. There's got to be some trick to make this happen that I'm over looking, the video above is done 100% in AE...

Help please I need to sleep ;)
