The most important thing to look for is the panel type -- you want an IPS panel, and you want to avoid TN panels. Something like a Dell UltraSharp U2311H or an HP ZR22w might be work well in your budget range. For your MacBook Pro, you'll also want to make sure you have an appropriate display adapter.

You will not find a monitor for $300 that's suitable for critically evaluating color.

Hi, what display adapter do you mean this one? http://store.apple.com/us/product/MB572Z/A?fnode=MTY1NDA4Mw&mco=MTczNzE2MDI, i have it, i already have an external monitor but is a old 4/3 just to expand my desktop room, it is not usable for any serious work
i am not doing any critical color evaluation

thanks for your suggestion, ill give a llok at samsung and hop as well, with IPs panel and at least 8 ms

If the monitor you get has DVI, I'd use that instead of the analog VGA connector (although the VGA would work). You'd have to get a different adapter for your Mac.

I haven't used the Samsung you mentioned, but some quick Googling shows that's a TN panel, not IPS. I'd stay away from it.
