I'm new to editing and have a question about background/foreground and distance. I'm creating a scene with after effects in front of a green screen with people walking. In Photoshop I have a matte picture that is going to used as the background. Whenever I scale it doesn't appear realistic, and doesn't fit the frame. Is there a way to make the foreground characters appear as if they are at full size and far away from the background region? I hope that makes sense.
It sounds like you need a bigger background image. You could try scaling it up and blurring it---give it a fake depth-of-field look. Also another thing that goes a long way in making a background/foreground plate look like they belong together is color correction, so that everything is in the same hue, and seems to have the same light sources(s).
