Illustrator Logo Animation techniques

Good Afternoon,

I've been given an illustrator logo to animate, but I'm not very experienced with AE.

One thought I has, was to export different elements (words / symbols)as pngs with alpha, and just animate those images in AE.

Does anyone have any suggestions on this?

Maybe a go to technique for you?

One good first step is to convert the vector graphic from Illustrator to shape layers, as shown here:

Then, you could extrude the logo in 3D, as in the end of this video:
