Possible to Open Apple Motion file in AE?
on Dec 5, 2012 at 5:43:35 pm

I'm in the process of transitioning from editing in FCP to Premiere and I have a lower third that I created in Apple Motion. My question is can I open it in AE so that I can edit it, save it as an AE file and then ultimately import it into Premiere?

If you are using AE CS 5.5 or lower version, then you can use Pro import from Automatic Duck:

I f you have AE CS6 then this feature is already there:

Automatic Duck is fine for editing applications that can create XML and OMF files of the edit timelines, which AE can then read. I seriously doubt you would be able to do the same thing for Motion and AE.

You might as well give The Duck a shot, but you should also be prepared to recreate the work you did in the Motion project from scratch in the AE project.

I just bought AE cc... Isn't the 'pro import feature' supposed to work with Motion 5? I tried but it didn't work. Is there an update coming or a way to trick it AE into accepting the apple motion 5 file? Maybe i could revert a motion 5 file to a motion 2 and then import it using pro or duck import? How could I do this?... I'm trying to avoid recreating my work.

Not to my knowledge, it isnt. It works to bring in XML files exported from FCP, not Motion project files.

I'd just re-create the project in AE. Since you don't say anything about the Motion Project file's complexity, the word "just" may be the wrong term.

You're welcome, but it's probably not the information you hoped to see...
