Trouble importing .gif files
on Mar 25, 2016 at 6:06:27 pm

Hi everyone,

So I'm having some trouble importing specific filetypes into my version of After Effects. When I select File>Import and select an animated .gif I'm trying to work on, it simply doesn't do anything. No dialogue error box, nothing. Same thing when I try to physically drag the file into the work window, no reaction at all from the program. I tried converting the gif to .mov, .mp4, even saving it as a .webm from the browser, and still no dice- same problem. However, when I imported a separate .png file, it immediately appeared in my Project window as it should.

This problem only recently started happening, leading me to believe that it may be a compatibility issue between my new OS and the older version of After Effects I'm using.

Any ideas as to how to fix this?

Specs:
Windows 10 Home (64 bit) intel i7 4700HQ @ 2.40 GHz 8.00 GB RAM
After Effects 7.0.1.11 Professional

Yeah, your AE version is really old. Way old for Win 10. Sorry.

Fixed it! Ran it in compatibility mode for Vista Service Pack 2 and that seems to have done the trick.
