Camera Tracking & Placing an object to use the track data
on Mar 14, 2016 at 8:14:05 am

So I am very familiar with using the Camera Tracker feature in AE to create tracked titles. Now I have a picture that I would like to place in my clip that will use the Camera Tracking data, like the tracked titles, to move across the screen with the scenery. I know to track a title you have to select a number of track points, right click, and choose create title. How do I use the track points to track a picture layer or object?

Thank you.

Select a number of track points, right-click, and choose Create 3D Null. Make this new null the parent of your picture layer. If you hold shift while using the parenting pickwhip, Ae will also move the child layer to the same position as the parent layer.

Hmmmm, i did what you said with the shift and pickwhip, but the layer isn't moving with the null layer...

Is the child layer 3D? If it's not 3D, it will not respond to the camera's motion.

Good morning Walter;
My problem looks a bit similar I think and for some reason I can't have the bench ont the clip to stay put by the lighted pillar on the right wall in the background. I used the same technique creating the 3D null for a torch on the upper right wall foreground and the brazier on the floor being just near the place I want my bench set and it worked perfectly. I can't understand where I'm faulty.May you have a clue...
Thanks in advance
Claude

You shared the result -- can you show us what you're doing, too?

I've used the method explained in this tutorial:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xiemS_DLKF4

My problem I think is that I cant really find a track point on the floor near the pillar with 3D camera tracker. Most of the active ones are against and parallel to the wall.
I'm trying now to solve the problem using Mocha Plus. I have not checked yet but I wonder if the option "Camera solve" in Mocha would not be the solution by creating a null object via Moka and on the other hand a Group null with Element 3D and link the group to the Moka Null.The obj is my bench. The clip is the corridor of the amphitheater.

What do you think?

Further info this is the tutorial I found for the possible solution of my problem. Unfortunately the guy did not upload part 2 of his tutorial! Very clever! But I suppose with the first part I'll the essential of his method:

I'll keep you posted with my results positive or negative...
