Jerky preview
on Jan 15, 2016 at 9:20:56 pm

I am working with a set of still images in a comp for which I've set the frame rate at 29.97. While I can scrub the comp fine, the preview playback is jerky and shows a realtime playback rate of 4.167 fps. Weird. Any suggestions?

As always, Many thanks

What's your version of AE? It's key to a proper answer.

I'm not surprised. You may be surprised by this -- don't use that version.

It's most charitably referred to as "a work in progress". Some are successful with it. Many aren't. Common factors among the successful ones appear to be 1) expert-level AE experience and 2) they could ace the Senior IT Guy placement exam.

If don't fall into those categories, use AE CC 2014... versions 13 - 13.4. Don't go beyond 13.4.x. If you already have it, great. If you don't, you can downlad it & install it.

There are just too many bugs, quirks and disabled features in the newest version for newcomers or occasional users to deal with.

Thanks Dave

I took your cue about the IT person. I covered myself in my security blanket so nobody could see me and did the unthinkable—I read the AE Help section on "Preview". Seems that I had skip set to 5 along with some not very close to 29.97 frame rate set. Changing these setting to 0 and "auto" did the trick. Just don't tell anyone I had to read the instructions or my cachet as the house AE jock is blown.

Best

HA! Glad the new version is working.

Hey, I look at tutorials & check Help all the time. Rarely - used keyboard shortcuts give me grief.
