weird tracking issue with camera tracker
on Aug 27, 2015 at 7:36:44 am

Hi everybody!

I’m Romana…and it’s the first time I write on this forum ;)

I have a situation with motion tracking in after effect.
I’m working with cs6 and I’m using 3d camera tracker inside after effect.

The footage shows a still object in a room, the shot is basically a push made using a slider.

When i try to do the tracking it seems that after effect’s camera solves properly, but what actually happens is that one graphic -the squared one- moves correctly while the other -the rectangle- shakes all the time.

Here is the video of the tracking issue (graphics are just a placeholders and are really simpler compared to the one I’m supposed to use)…it’s 2.9 mb don’t worry ;)

In case you need it here is the “clean” footage without my motion tracking:

It really doesn’t make any sense to me: how is it possibile? I could understand a tracking that is completely wrong…but some objects moving properly and others which don’t?

It’s a problem of this kind of footage?

Or maybe I should use another plugin, like mocha?

I’d really really appreciate any help you could give me.
Thank you for your time.

There's no real 3D motion, just a slight zoom, so the 3D camera tracker cannot resolve the camera accurately.

For this type of footage, use the regular tracker with two points, tracking position and scale of (for instance) the diagonal corners of the TV screen, and apply the results to a null object. Then you can parent other things to the null and they will follow the scale and position of the footage.

Kalle, that worked like a charm!!!

The solution was so simple. Or maybe my question was silly ;)
Anyway the solution you suggest it’s perfect.

Thank you soooooooooooo much!

Have a nice day
