video grid
on Jan 17, 2015 at 9:40:37 am

I have a job coming up reworking a company's video showreel.
I have a a grid of squares with in 16:9 composition, each one contains a video example.

I simply need to see the whole grid, then zoom into one of the squares so that it fills the frame and runs that particular clip full frame. I need to do this 5 or times to different examples on the grid in different areas of the grid.

1. What is the neatest way to achieve this - using nulls and cameras?

2. Also as the squares are well, square - they need to morph to 16:9 shape as we zoom in.

3. is it possible, rather than zooming to scale the target clip in the grid to full frame, whilst pushing the other clips away? as the zooming is a bit giddy-fying (is that a word?!)

I did achieve this to some degree when I worked on the last version of this reel 2 years ago:

(at 36s for example)

but the AE project was an absolute beast in size and I managed to confuse myself thoroughly with my method of parenting the whole grid to certain squares.

Any thoughts and good techniques for this and workflow?

thanks in adv!
