aerender - command not found
on Jul 6, 2014 at 1:09:46 am

I get no joy with aerender (CC 2014 on Mavericks). Just "command not found". Same deal if If I just type "aerender -help" And, this is weird, if I run ls on the directory, the aerender executable doesn't show up. In the GUI it's there.

Anyway, if anyone has had a similar problem, I'd really appreciate any help you can throw.

Cheers
Bettsy

[Shane Betts] "I get no joy with aerender (CC 2014 on Mavericks). Just "command not found". Same deal if If I just type "aerender -help""

Once you've changed to the After Effects CC 2014 directory in Terminal, Type a dot and a slash before aerender like this:

./aerender

Why? UNIX searches directories listed in the PATH variable, but it doesn't search the current directory for executables:

Thanks Walter. It works! I was kinda confused, thinking that aerender was like some Terminal-only apps that Terminal seems to know where they live even though you never come across them in the GUI. But now that I understand that it has to locate the executable it all becomes clear. Thanks again!

Happy to help.

If you want to be able to execute aerender from anywhere, you have to add it to the path:

Sorry, that was unclear. If you want to be able to execute aerender from anywhere, you have to add its containing directory to the path.

No need for an apology Walter. You were perfectly clear. Adobe's documentation, not so much...
