After Effects CS6 RAM previewing slower than normal?
on Feb 4, 2014 at 1:51:28 am

Usually I can get a pretty quick preview-render/ram-preview on After Effects but every now and then, seemingly in the most important moments, the program seems to ram preview very slow at ANY RESOLTUION/QUALITY. It will render as slow as it does at 10% quarter quality as it does at 100% full quality.

Some quick specs:
Intel Core i5-2300 CPU @ 2.80GHZ
8.00 GB RAM
64 bit Windows 7
AMD Radeon HD 7870

Thanks for the help. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Check to see if you have Render Multiple Frames Simultaneously selected in Edit>Prefs>Memory & Multiprocessing. With RMFS, it may take some time to initialize multiple cores prior to a RAM preview.

With CS6 and CC, you really need to get to know your setup really well. RMFS, on certain types of footage/layer/comps, RMFS can be slow. In CC, there is a setting to initiate RMFS only for final renders and not for previews.
