What would be the best way to recreate something similar to this?

Hey,

I'm trying to put something together like this:

Except I'm going to have 4 lights, two on either side that cross over.

What would your suggestions be? I've tried a couple of ways using lights but just can't 'nail it'

Thanks!

Create a white solid and make it a 3D layer. Add white lights and the bottom corners of your comp and place them 10 pixels in front of the white solid. Adjust the lights settings to match and animate rotation to taste. You could also adjust the material properties of the solid to make it shine more or less.

I made a sample project with 2 lights in CS5.5. 6463_spotlights.aep.zip

Here's the final product.

As you can see I substituted the White Solid for a background I made of Fog, added in some 3D text, added in some subtle camera flashes and of course a red carpet!

This was for a film festival I helped run.

There's a few ways to go about this- John described a good one- here's a couple more:

you can animate masks with feathered edges on semitransparent white solids.

OR

Use AE lights with Trapcode Lux to make the light cone volumetric.
