does any one know of any other good websites for compositing elements. i currently have Compositors toolkits 1-3 and Video Copilot stuff. i was just curious if there is something better out there?

The ones you mention are pretty darned good sources. I haven't heard much about any others.

Normally, you just make any animated little elements in AE because the chosen design precludes using much of the canned stuff.

for the project I'm going to be working on requires a lot of fire, bullet hits, smoke and stuff of that nature. basically compositing fx clips into footage. besides it's a ton of fun trying to force a square peg into a round hole.

after some searching i did find these guys as well

Okay, here's another place to investigate if you're not adverse to square pegs & round holes: Artbeats. You might turn up something valuable.
