AE raytrace rendering not avialble on GPU
on Dec 15, 2012 at 12:38:37 pm

Hi There,

Bought a new laptop:

win7 pro 64bit, intel core i7-3820QM @2.70GHz, 32 gm ram, nvidia gtx680m 4gb ram, samsung 256 gb ssd disk.

I have been doing some AE cs6 raytracing tests and the performance is horrible. Waiting 30 sec for one frame to update. When I looked in the prefs pane I noticed that the raytracing rendering is done by the cpu and I think this is the main reason why its so terribly slow.

Please look at the image below:

The Nvidia gtx680m drivers are up to date. What are the additional actions I can take to get AE to use my GPU to render the raytracing?

Hope you can help!

Cheers,

Manuel Rodrigues

To be 100% complete:

I have told AE to use the GTX680gpu throught the "right click run with gpu" option and I have given AE admin priveliges throught the "run as admin" option.

Really hope you can help!

680M isn't officially supported. You'll need to do the "CUDA hack" and add it to the supported cards. More info here: http://www.studio1productions.com/Articles/AfterEffects.htm
