AE Cache issue driving me crazy... sos anyone!!
on Dec 5, 2012 at 12:40:51 am

Alright, when i start AE i get the warning...

"Your disk cache folder is on a drive that does not have enough available space to safely store the full amount... blah blah blah"

I have dedicated a Samsung Pro 256GB SSD specifically for AE cache.

In Preferences > Disk Cache
I have Enable Disk Cache Checked.
Maximum Disk Cache Size: 220GB
Choose Folder... > (K:\The Samsung Pro 256 SSD)

Conformed Media Cache Folder: Choose Folder:
Database:(K:\The Samsung Pro 256 SSD)

Cache: Choose Folder:
(K:\The Samsung Pro 256 SSD)

Now... what did I do wrong in distributing the cache folders?

I am running my projects off of a Samsung 840, 512GB SSD
I also have another Samsung Pro 256 SSD that I use for Adobe PrePro Cache.

Total - 3 SSD's.

I back everything up to HDD's - Raid 1.

The SSD I'm using for AE's cache - when I checked after the warning reports the following:

Used space: 10.6GB
Free space: 227GB.
Capacity 238GB

Why is AE telling me that its getting low??

Anyone with knowledge that thinks this could be a bug just throwing me off?

or should I not be keeping all the AE cache files on that one single
SSD? Did i spread them out correctly?

Thanks.

You've set aside 220GB for AEs cache. With CS6, AE requires that you set aside 10GB free on the drive with the cache folder/files. More info here - http://helpx.adobe.com/after-effects/using/memory-storage.html.

Thanks for the OP and the replies. I have one followup question.

I too have a 256 GB Samsung 840 Pro dedicated to disk cache. I'm getting the same error as the OP every time I open AE.

Originally, I allotted 200 GB. No problem.

After a couple of sessions, AE has used about 46GB.

Cue error.

I found that I have to readjust the allotted space based on available disk space (minus 10GB) every time I open AE. It seems to me that AE should know how much space it has used from all sessions. Am I making sense, and am I crazy?

Can I just ignore the error? Should I be readjusting every time? or will it make a difference?

Hey Andrew,

Did you ever work this out?

I just put a 256gb drive on my machine, exclusively for Cache. I alloted 220 gb in After Effects and I'm still getting the same warning when I launch AE.

Any ideas?

Thanks.
