swooping swishing ribbon graphics?
on Oct 27, 2012 at 11:31:23 pm

well I tried to post this a minute ago donno what happened.

many ads have sweeping/swooshing rotating streams of graphics criss-crossing throughout.

sometimes they do appear to be light beams but others seem to be solids.

I'm trying to post an example will see what happens, maybe have to do it in a comment to get it to work.

anyway, any suggestions as to what's being used/how to do this is appreciated.

Take a look at Trapcode Particular by Red Giant Software.

Len

Those ribbons and lines can be made in many different ways.

Trapcode 3D stroke is good for creating this effect:

There are many tutorials out there in youtube to learn how to use it.

both of you thanks very much!!

I didn't really know what these were called so it made it a bit difficult to search - go figure duh light streaks lol!

took a break a little while ago and watched Midnight Express; wow what a diversion that was! Liam Neeson was on the Daily Show and told Jon he watched it when filming Taken 2 (in Turkey). hey can't go wrong if Liam liked it huh.

thanks again! cheers!

Sorry...was getting past my bedtime. Didn't know that you owned Particular, so I was hoping that my post would send you to Red Giant's site and watch their demos there, which clearly show examples of streaklets. I'm also reluctant to discuss specific products here, because if they aren't active advertisers on the COW, my posts have sometimes been blocked.

hey Steve it's all good.

as mentioned, and I know I'm not alone in this - if we don't know what the term is called it's really hard to find in a search.

it's also difficult to sort thru the multitude of tutorials out there when one isn't even sure which effect is used, so it's like what am I looking for again?

cheers!

I know what you mean. I actually had no idea they were called 'streaklets'. I just knew that I'd seen some presets and demos of Particular that had them, so I opened Particular, and whaddya know, a particle called 'Streaklet'. I've personally never used it before, but this thread, plus as you have pointed out, they're very popular, makes me want to.
