2d character curling into 3D space?
on Jul 29, 2012 at 6:19:07 am

Hi everybody,
I'm in the planning stages of an animation that uses characters made of simple rectangles, but I'd like them to be able to curl and twist in 3D space--sort of like the film strip character animation in movie theaters.

I DO have access to Cinema 4D and Maya, but I was hoping to stick to After Effects...is there any good way to do it in there (or with a plugin) or am I making things harder for myself?

Thanks!

I'm not sure if this would work for what you're trying to do but maybe check out Zaxwerks 3D Warps plug-in.

Maybe the Page Turn effect would give you the effect you're looking for? Depends on how complex you're looking to go, I guess.

Free Form- free with AE or FreeForm Pro can do true 3d distortion. Check out the mettle website for tutorials on using FreeForm Pro in animation.
