After effects uncompressed file showing as blurry
on Mar 26, 2012 at 1:22:35 pm

Hi,

I've got a very simple title animation. No blur, just motion blur enabled. Looks great in AE, but when I render out, uncompressed (losses) QT, the end result is blurry and quite frankly unuseable. What's the deal? If there a setting i'm missing here?

Thanks

How are you previewing the animation, and how are you evaluating the final render?

Are you having this problem:

AE's default lossless output module generates an intermediate file that is designed for additional post-production use, not direct playback. These files are generally huge, with very high data rates, and very few computers can play them back in real time without stuttering. For more, see this Adobe FAQ [link]: Why is my output file huge, and why doesn't it play back smoothly in a media player?

To help you choose a more suitable format for your needs, see the related Adobe FAQ [link]: What is the best format for rendering and exporting from After Effects?

Thanks Walter.

Well i've got an iMac 3.4GHz, 20GB RAM and 2GB Graphics card, so I would hope I can view it at full resolution. I don't get stutter, just blur. Plus pulling into FCPX and viewing there too and same issue.

I have identified the problem. If I turn off motion blur on layers and now the file will render and view fine. But I really want to keep the motion blur!

We're talking blur even when the text is motionless btw.

What about pulling the rendered footage into AE, dropping it in a new comp, and doing a RAM preview?

Are you previewing in AE at the same resolution you're rendering?

Do you have OpenGL rendering turned OFF?

What are your motion blur settings?

Hi Walter,

Just pulled the file back into AE and RAM Previewed. Same bad result. And rending in the same resolution as rending (I guess you mean I am rending out at the same as the comp 1920 x 1080?)

Had OpenGL render ON when I exported. OpenGL is enabled in my preferences.

Settings for Motion Blur are:
Shutter Angle: 180
Shutter Phase: -90
Samples Per Frame: 16
Adaptive Sample Limit: 128

Comp Settings are:
1920 x 1080
25fps

Hurrah! You are a genius!

I clicked preserve frame rate when nested and also preserve resolution when nested. Solved!

Thank you! One to remember.

Glad you figured it out.

I'd also turn off OpenGL for rendering [link].

Thats good to know too and explains why by default it is not checked.

Thanks again.
