More RAM memory for After Effects
on Feb 13, 2012 at 8:11:32 pm

Hi,

I just bought after effects and want to buy more memory for my Mac Pro:
• MacPro4,1 (2.66GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon)

Current memory: 6 GB 1066 MHz DDR3

How do I know what kind of ram I need? does it have to be "1066 MHz DDR3"? or have to be just DDR3..

Good places to buy from?
-macsales.com has 16GB of their OWC ram (for my specific computer) for $124.99 - Is this good Ram quality and a good price?

perhaps this isn't the right forum for these types of questions. What's a forum to ask this kind of thing? And a forum to ask general film-making questions as well.

Thanks a lot!

OWC is among the best - fully qualified to Apple specs. OWC is not the cheapest, but their service, support, and quality is excellent.

I recently bought some RAM from "MacDimms" and the price was very good:

If your machine is a 2009 or 2010 model, then you don;t need to install in pairs, but you do need to pay attention to the ordering of the RAM sticks per this document:
