protecting your .aep files while rendering
on Nov 13, 2011 at 10:38:00 pm

Hello, I have an odd question.

Im going to use a shared renderfarm and will be using my .aep files to render on it.

However, as it is shared, multiple people can access the files now.
I don't want them to be able to access the files. I use the After Effects render engine and it works well.

Is there a way I can somehow encrypt these files or change them in such manner that they are not accessible to other people besides me?

Perhaps password protect them, is that even possible?

There is no mechanism for user permissions or password-protecting project files in After Effects itself.

You may have the ability to protect your files on the network, but you'd have to speak with whomever manages the shared render farm to find out if it's possible.

A simple solution might be to mark the file as "read-only." It would not deter someone with permission from changing it back to "read-write," but it would prevent casual modifications.
