text from motion with transparent background to after effects
on Jun 1, 2011 at 6:43:40 pm

Hello,
I just created an animated text in motion and exported it with a transparent background using the animation codec. My question is, how do I get that transparent background in after effects. once i import the video into AE, it imports with a blak background. how would I get the transparent background again?

Thank You,
Carlos O

If you rendered ad RGBA the alpha (A) is preserved, check the transparency switch in the Comp viewer.

...which leads both the Good Mr. Charles and myself to believe that you might have not exported from Motion with that transparency.

I can think of two things that could have happened: you didn't know HOW to export from Motion with transparency, or you didn't have a transparent background in Motion.

Hello,
I had the transparent background in motion before exporting it and had the codec settings in animation. I still wasn't clear if that was the right exporting settings, but it worked fine in FCP. I am new to AE, so i don't know what to do with the clip once its on AE.

Thanks
Carlos O.

An alpha channel is an alpha channel. If After Effects can't read it, I suspect you didn't look at the exported clip in FCP, but instead you imported the Motion project file into FCP... which is a very different thing indeed from an exported clip.
