SAN Enclosure

Hi,

I had a look around and could not find an answer, so there:

We are buying an SNS EVO SAN and I am looking for an enclosure for this. Would appreciate any advice and reports of good or bad experiences. At this stage price and country of origin are not an issue.

thanks a lot,

Do you mean an equipment rack? The EVO is a self-contained unit and only needs a rack to live in (though it will work without one too).

Best,
Andy

you need to be specific about what you want. SNS supplies an "enclosure" for their drives. Do you want a rack? Do you want a road case ? Exactly what are you looking for ?

Hi,

hum, this comes down to my less than perfect command of english, sorry.

I need a rack for the EVO, and the EVO only, so we're talking 3 or 4U.

The unit will not move, so not a flight case.

I am having difficulties sourcing this here (Switzerlanmd) as the EVO is quite deep and lots of racks here are IT like server size.

hope this is more accurate,

thanks

In the U.S., the most popular racks that do not cost a lot of money are Middle Atlantic, and Raxxess. Both make "skeleton" racks that are 30" deep - deep enough for any server computer.

But the shipping cost of these heavy racks may be way too expensive to be practical. You should probably try to find a dealer in Europe - I am sure that there are plenty of stocking dealers in England that can supply this.

Bob, you would think that 30" would be enough, but imagine my surprise when I received the NexSAN SataBeast Expansion (60 drives) to find out that it's actually 40" deep. It didn't fit in my rack and I had to return it and swap for an extra head unit (42 drives). More throughput but less storage...

I believe their new e60 is 40" deep as well.

40" deep is like a toboggan...
