We are shortly to add a Varicam35 to our equipment list. Currently we use a Sony F55 and F65 for the majority of our filming, alongside an in-house built content logging and management system. The latter can handle the management of proxies (manually created) from both camera's along with filing the shots away, keeping track of metadata and logging information, and also ensuring that any separate Broadcast WAV audio files are kept with the appropiate shots. All works fine, of sorts!
However, there is a firm resolve that we need to move away from our in-house cobbled together system to something that can handle full resolution RAW, 4K/HD/Proxy Prores, and AVC-Ultra/Intra, as well as separate audio files, and make the transition into Premiere Pro or Davinci far easier in the future.
A lot of our material, while filmed for a specific purpose, can be reused in the future, hence we want to keep it fully accessible. We've looked at, and like Cantemo, but the last conversations we had with them, they were unable to advise whether it could handle F65 RAW natively, which if not, is a deal breaker, plus its a significant five figure some investment for server and storage equipment, some of which is replicating thunderbolt drives we already have.
What are other production houses using for handling library and archive footage? Any suggestions on possible other options?
