Using UBUNTU based Lap Top to download the Panasonic GH 4

Hoping to film on a Panasonic GH 4 camera shortly, I am Seeking help to find out if UBUNTU based lap tops can transfer Panasonic GH4 footage to Hard drives, further can this footage be edited on Light works/ AVID.

I have little experience with Ubuntu machines but if I had to guess I'll bet this is a long, lonely road. What I found on Google was-

Thanks for the information, I was only planning to use a UBUNTU machine for transfer of material from SDXC card to a hard drive. Have been a MAC user since 2005 and I cant afford to buy a Mac book now.

To add to your edit input, LIGHT WORKS has an edit software for UBUNTU and I have heard that there are quite a few people using them.
