Has anyone found a way of doing this? I noticed online that there is an android app that allows you to view the output of a canon dslr by running a cable from the HDMI output of the camera to the mini usb port of an Nexus 7, etc.

After having reviewed 720P field monitors in the $1K to $3k cost range it occurred to me that this method (or perhaps the wifi capability of the camera) could be used to take advantage of the incredible 2600x1600 screen on a samsung 8.4" tablet ($275). But after buying one and trying - I can't get it to work.

Does anyone know of a work-around to use a tablet as a field monitor with this camera?

Short answer- no.

Long answer- yes it's technically possible to use your iPad as a monitor. But you're either getting it cheap with a serious lag and low frame rate or you're getting it for so expensive it far exceeds the cost of a decent field monitor- which would already give you far better resolution and additional calibration and focusing tools.

Cheap but laggy and low frame rate: http://www.handheldhollywood.com/latest-news/macworld-iworld-2013-camranger...

Expensive: http://www.teradek.com/pages/cube

Instead I would recommend starting with: http://www.smallhd.com
