AF100 focus assist - is that all I get?

I used the AF100 this past week. I was excited to use the camera because lately I've been using DSLRs and really can't stand them other than the picture quality.

I was under the impression that the AF100 had a focus assist. The EVF and the LCD are both pretty small and achieving focus with a large sensor can be difficult on such small screens. I liked the EVF peaking, which can be helpful. I liked the idea of the red peaking, but it's not really telling me what's in focus. Rather, it's telling me what has sharp contrast. I found it virtually useless as it was telling me the jacket, the back of the chair, and parts of the background were in focus by highlighting them in red.

I was hoping there was an expanded focus or 1:1 type of thing. I couldn't find that. Was I missing something? Even the cheap HMC150 has an expanded focus that is extremely helpful.

BTW, I wasn't so excited about the crop factor. It made my 24-70 great on the long end, but terrible on the wide side. That's what I hate about all these lenses. Why can't they make a lens that gives me an effective 18-200 (without the crop factor)?

Focusing can be a pain. I use B&W in the EVF with focus in red. Works pretty well. The best combo is to use Lumix lenses and the push to focus feature on the camera. It's not super fast auto focus but works very well. With Push to focus you select the focus area. Push the focus button and when it locks the lens goes back to manual. It's nice to work with native lenses.

The newer AF100 like mine have the expanded focus. I can't believe it was ever released without it. I don't know if it can be added with a firmware update.
