GH2 card file structure for FCP L&T
on Feb 21, 2011 at 5:19:53 pm

So like many of us I am thinking of getting a GH2. Looking around on the web and getting some native mts files downloaded. I would like to bring these native files into FCP 7 and see how they look. However the files that I have downloaded are not in the file structure that FCP needs to see them in. I have tried putting the mts files in the following structure however FCP does not see them.

PRIVATE > AVCHD > BDMV > STREAM > 120110.MTS

How can I load the native .MTS files into the FCP L&T window for conversion to pro res?

Thanks!

You need the entire image from a card- not just the MTS. Search for GH2 card images- that's what you need.

Thanks Noah YES! that is the information I am looking for. Have spent a few hours trying to track this information down and the post from above is as far as I have gotten. Any leads on how I can obtain this information would be great. I am assuming that I just need the proper series of folders like with the Canon 7D files. THANKS!

Although I don't recommend it as a project workflow, just as an FYI:

A GH2 camera-original AVCHD ".MTS" file can be "re-wrapped" to a QuickTime-playable ".M4V" file (without re-compression) using the free Rewrap2M4V & ClipWrap software, as discussed here:
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2380085&ts%20tart=0

Using the above software, even a large MTS file can be re-wrapped in a few seconds simply by drag & dropping the MTS onto the Rewrap2M4V icon.

FYI: The free VLC software can play almost all video file types, including GH2 MTS files:

For "real" projects, I strongly recommend transcoding AVCHD .MTS files to ProRes either using FCP's standard Log & Transfer feature or Compressor. Cheers.
