Deleting clips in AVCHD

I've been wondering something for a while. I am very cautious about editing AVCHD, with it's odd structure. I am ok with renaming clips at the base level 000001.mts to take1.mts for example, but I'm confused as to how or whether to *delete* these bottom level clips without screwing up the PRIVATE directory underpinnings and its' "database" of the shots.

Does anyone definitevly know whether I can always delete, say the bottom level clip, like 00001.mts without screwing up the rest of the clips?

I hate using that stupid utility that comes with Panasonic cameras, it's worthless in my book.

What are others using to effectively delete unwanted clips?

Alf

No you don't want to delete anything on a card- save it all as a backup...
