Downsizing 1440x1080 to 720x480

I just recently imported some Steadicam footage shot with my Panasonic AG-HMC150, which films in a 1440x1080 aspect ratio. We also used a second, similar camera (A Panasonic, I believe 100B) that shoots in 720x480 and I'd like to downsize my footage to this ratio. What's the best way to go about doing this? I have Moyea Video Converter (this is how I import my MTS files) as well as Squeeze (if that helps).

[Michael Campanizzi] "I just recently imported some Steadicam footage shot with my Panasonic AG-HMC150, which films in a 1440x1080 aspect ratio."

Just to be nit-picky, 1440x1080 is simply the horizontal & vertical resolution. Your footage's SCREEN aspect ratio is 16x9, and its PIXEL aspect ratio is 1.33.

What software do you use for cutting? It's an important consideration.

I'm an FCP guy, so I'd convert the Steadicam footage to ProRes 422 SD and cut in an SD timeline, including the DV stuff. Make accommodations for 4x3 or 16x9 as necessary.

I use Avid to edit, but the guy the footage is for is using Adobe Premeire.

If you can do it in Avid, it would probably be easier & faster; I'm an FCP guy, and there's an easy way to do it with Final Cut Suite.

If you HAVE to do it in AE, make an NTSC DV-resolution comp -- 4x3 or widescreen -- using the AE comp presets. Add the footage to the comp, scale it to fit the comp, and render in the codec that's Premiere-friendly for that other guy.

And as always, convert any HDV footage to a codec that is NOT long-gop / interframe-compressed before you import it into AE.

Do you know of a way to do it in Avid? I know you said you are a FCP guy, which I've also used, and it's fairly similar editing-wise (I just grew up on Avid so that's what I prefer). How do you do it in FCP? It's probably a semi-similar process in Avid.
