Importing HMC-150 footage to FCP
on May 8, 2009 at 5:54:38 pm

Hey there. I just got my new HMC-150P, and I am really pumped to use it. I'm about to shoot a project, and am wondering what the best way/workflow is to bring the footage into FCP?

Also wondering if anyone has any feedback on what recording mode to use. I'm going to be shoot a for a DVD, and then some stuff for the web. 1080/30p vs 1080/60i vs 1080/24p?

Can't wait to use this thing.

I personally like 1080/24p but that's sort of an artistic choice. You must have the latest version of FCP and QuickTime to ingest HMC150 footage.

Hey Noah, (and everyone else)

I just purchased this camera as well, and it should arrive at my door today. Anyhow, I've used HDV in FCP, and usually I import that video as ProRess 422 (Non-HQ) and the quality is pretty nice.

Now I have a couple of questions:

1. The HDV import was easy, especially since there are some FCP settings specific to Sony Firewire (Device Control Preset). Is there specific settings I should use in the Audio Video settings?

2. I will be filming a friends wedding on Saturday and I plan on using a couple of SDHC cards. Isn't there a way to pull the video off of the card to my MacbookPro and then import it into FCP? I thought I had read on here somewhere that there was a process, but after searching the threads I came up empty handed.

Anyhow, any information on the import process/settings in FCP would be very much appreciated.

Thanks again in advance, and I apologize for highjacking this thread. ;-)

I got the camera in. It is AWESOME. It was also really easy importing from the HCSD cards. I just used a SD card reader I had laying around, and used the log and transfer function. Easy easy. I'm sure there is probably a faster way to do it, but that was really easy.

Super easy! This is the cleanest video I've ever laid eyes on in FCP.

Thanks for your help Joey.

Cheers.
