Recording 16mm Film with DVX...
on Apr 14, 2009 at 11:00:07 am

I have a 16mm b/w film (no sound) that I wanted to get a recording of. Whats the best way to do this? I'm going to be using a DVX100b. Should I put it on 24p? Any other tips to make it come out the best?

Isn't there a telecine transfer house somewhere near you? This should cost maybe $100 to get a nice looking transfer. Sure you could try to film a projector in 24p and then use the synchro shutter to try and minimize flicker but it's still going to look like crud.

I agree, find a facility. There is no way you will get the shutter in the projector to consistently line up with the shutter in the camera. If you must do this, shoot at 30i to increase the number of samples in time. This will give you a better shot at landing most of the film frames.
