I have a mini DV tape that got a small tear in it when the DVX tape door jammed because the sticker on the outside of the tape was loose. I thought about fixing it myself with a small piece of scotch tape, like I used to do with audiotapes back in the day, but this makes me nervous. Is this the type of thing that can be repaired? If so, what should I do or what type of place should I go to repair it? Thanks so much!
Depends how important the footage is. As long as you fast forward and rewind past the scotch tape part you should be ok. If you play it you'll probably damage your deck/camera. If it's really important most dub houses have a service to take a DV tape spool and put it repaired into a new box- for maybe $75-100. In L.A. Lightning Dubbs does this.
