Audio Monitor Distortion

I am experiencing distortion in my headphones when monitoring audio. The recorded sound plays back just fine. The headphones work fine on other sources. I have run a head cleaning tape - thought maybe the playback heads were dirty but this didn't help. The problem developed a week or so ago - the camera is four years old. Any ideas? It's a problem that I could live with but I use wireless audio gear and I'm worried that the distortion will make it difficult to hear that slight hiss when a battery is just starting to go.

Could be blown connections- might be worth getting it serviced.

Do you mean the connection at the headphone jack on the camera?
Thanks

Sure- or the cables or the headphones. It's a piece of gear and gear doesn't last forever ya know.
