HPX2000 720p30 vs 1080p30 DVCPRO HD

I have a DVCPRO HD only HPX2000, and I am curious if I shoot in 1080 30p mode, will I be able to achieve higher resolution than 720 30p mode if I convert down to 720p30 for the final file. I understand DVCPRO HD 720 is really 960x720, but 1080 comes out at 1280x1080, so I would be able to get full horizontal resolution right? I imagine there might be some issues with this though.

Also, why doesn't my DS GAIN function work in 30P mode, that sucks. :(

Obviously the 1080p is better than the 720p. If you have to deliver 720p then I would shoot on 720p and keep it through the entire workflow. The DVCProHD files are nearly as good as real 1920x1080 pictures. The best results come with the intra codec. There is a extension card for the 2000, it's worth buying.

cheers
