Panasonic HPX 370 vs Sony PMW EX3

I am in a quandary regarding the choice of a new camera.
Have been looking at the Panasonic HPX 370 and the Sony PMW EX3.

The 370 has 1/3" 3MOS sensors
The EX3 has 1/2" (3) CMOS sensors

The 3MOS is supposed to have lower noise than CMOS.

The gripe I have read about the 370 is mainly it has no HDMI
connection. (That at this point doesn't concern me).
The gripe about the EX3 is the zoom control.

They both have great picture quality. (From what I read).
>Which of the two is more rugged for daily use?
>Which of the two have the least amount compression?

If anyone can help me I sure would appreciate it.
The camera would be used for indoor with lighting & some outdoor
use.

Thanks! / Don Bronn

We have and use both cameras. Picture quality from both are stunning. The 370 has a slight edge in low light situations. The biggest advantage of the 370 is that it supports a remote paintbox (Panasonic's CCU) while the Sony does not have the remote capability. We use the 370 for our sports broadcasting truck for that feature alone.

I run 5 Panasonic 370's in a remote truck. They are on the road 4-5 events a week and are holding up well. I also run them with the control panels. We do a lot of night time events and lots of shows in gyms with less than perfect lighting and the 370's look pretty good. I run them with Volamp fiber optic CCU's/backs with 500ft of cable on each camera. We've done around 150 events with them and they just work.

I am looking a getting a multicam setup . I looked at the hpx-371 because it is one of the cheapest cam that can get ccus.
But there seems to be a quality issue with the hpx-371 having some quality issues in changing light situations. People see artifacts and have a softer than normal image when light changes.
I haven't heard people complaining about similar problems with the Sony ex 3 or the new pmw-200.

Anybody have issues similar on these cameras?
I guess best thing is to rent both of them and check them side by side before ordering a large batch of any of them.
Thanks

[Don Bronn] "Which of the two have the least amount compression?"

35MB/s compared to AVC-Intra. HPX-370 is the clear winner!

Yes, 10-bit AVC-Intra 100 is I-frame, 4:2:2 at 100Mbps vs. XDCAM EX 8-bit, Long GOP, 4:2:0 at 35Mbps. AVC-Intra 100 is more compressed than ProRes 422, however.

We used to send out an EX1 and Ki Pro for clients who didn't want pay for a 2/3" HD camera.

Now we have an HPX250 and recently added an HPX255, which works with the EC4 paint box, like the HPX370. Very powerful codec and controlability for a palmcorder at an affordable price point. No need for the Ki Pro, unless the client demands to walk away with ProRes.
