HPX370 DV Codec issues
on Feb 25, 2012 at 8:42:48 pm

Please see the attached photo. Notice the pixillation near the vertical tree-like things on the left. This was taken at DV 60i. I have two HPX370s and they are exhibiting the same issue of pixillation with fine objects. I have had a 200 for many years (on this shoot as well) and have not noticed anything like this. Any clues? As stupid as this may sound could it be that the sensor is so good it is overloading the DV codec with info and it is just dropping things?

Initially it struck me as something that would only be on the computer screen as I have seen crap like this when images are blown up on an LCD. This, however, is not the case as it comes through my regular tube SD monitor and it just doesn't look pretty.

For one thing, the DV codec is horrible.

The other thing is that the 200 is a CCD camera and the 370 is CMOS.
This is one of the drawbacks of cmos sensors IMO.

DV isn't great but I have seen great stuff come of it. Can you fill me in on a technical reason for the CMOS sensors performing worse when recording to the DV codec?
