HPX300 out of box setup
on Nov 9, 2010 at 6:46:39 pm

Right out of the box is the HPX300 tuned for optimum performance or does the camera need to be setup with DSC Labs ChromaDuMonde 28 chip test chart.

If so how often this should be performed on single camera shoots. I understand this is needed for multiple camera shoots.

I have a company locally that said it will cost $250.00 to set up with the with DSC Labs ChromaDuMonde 28 chip test chart and will take two hours 125.00 hour.

Is this overkill or is there a cheaper alternative?

Thanks for any insight

Each shoot is different. It all depends on your lighting. You can change your scene files depending on the look you want.

The 300 can get grainy if not setup properly. It's an easy fix.

To properly setup a HPX300 do you need a DSC Labs ChromaDuMonde 28 chip test chart or can you use a different chart with similar results.

Is the waveform/vector scope built into the camera have all the same features as a stand alone vector scope?

I'm only asking because these charts require hd vector scope and if the one on the camera will work that will save from having to purchase extra equipment that propably won't be used much.

Not sure how often you would want to shoot the charts if your only using one camera shoots.

Hey Steve, what is that "Easy Fix" you speak of?

Are you talking about using the DSC Labs Chroma DuMonde chart or do you have another method?

A friend of mine has 2 HPX300's that he thinks are too noisy.

Thanks

Here was my fix.

I found on my HPX300 you need to make sure the latest firmware is installed 9.35.00.0.00.

Don't ever go past F5 use filters before stopping down.

Scene settings are the key made a huge difference.

I used a putora sharpness indicator to make sure back focus was good.

Use lots of light.

I ordered the DSC 12 chip chart with skin tones & 12 step grey scale.

The camera is operating like it should now but was not setup this way out of box.

Hope this helped,
