HVX200P scene files and audio?
on Jun 2, 2010 at 3:05:58 pm

How different is our HVX 200P from the 200 or 200A? I'm looking for the SD and HD Norm scene files. The 200P does not have them.

Also, I really like the Cine-V setting for that saturated, contrasty look but it doesn't record audio. Am I missing something. I do get audio in the standard, F1-scene mode that was installed on the camera. Can you not record audio on the camera in Cine-V or Cine-D modes? I'm mainly using our shotgun mic into input 2 on camera. This is mainly for B-roll, but still want to record audio.

Matt,

You can record audio in all of the cine gamma modes on the HVX. That includes Cine-V and Cine-D. The only time it does not record audio is when you are shooting 24pn with a variable frame rate causing the camera to under or over crank. If you are shooting 24pn make sure your frame rate is set to default. This will allow you to record audio. And of course check your mic and line settings on the front of the camera.

I thought so. But as soon as I change the scene file wheel on the back from F1 to F5 for Cine-V, my audio meters go blank. Is there an internal setting in the scene file I'm missing?

Oops, I see. In the scene file menu, the frame rate was set to 24p. I switched that to default and meters show up again. thx

Did you make sure you are shooting at the default frame rate? Go into the scene file and see what the setting indicates.

The biggest difference is the chip, a little better in lower light and a bit sharper. Nothing as far as scene files.

Michael, do you know how I can obtain the SD and HD Norm scene files? In this article I found (link below), and others, it talks about HD Norm being a good standard for HD video and a good starting point. I don't have those scene files on our camera and I couldn't find them on Panasonic's site.

That's a gamma setting, not a scene file.

Matt,
Go into your scene file menu- scroll through until you get to the gamma settings. There you will find HD norm and the rest of the gamma settings. Select what you;d like and save the change.
