I hired three camera guys to shoot my latest piece on P2 cameras. I wanted it to be as close to 24p as possible, but didn't want to go with 720P. They said they shot at 1080i24p, but when I imported the footage, it said in the bin that it was 1280 by 1080 (??!!) and 1080p30. I don't get it. why 1280 by 1080? The footage looks terribly interlaced and is jumpy. I have tried every kind of Easy Setup and every AV settings for import, and each time I log and transfer it comes in at 1080p30 and is extremely interlaced. What do I do about deinterlacing? Should I process through compressor using Prores? When I've shot with a Canon HV30 I had to process my "24P" footage through Prores and it worked, but I'm not sure what to do here? Whatever these guys shot it at (and they all swear it is at 1080i24p), it must be usable, right? Please help!
DVCProHD is an thin raster codec, it is 1280x1080, but the footage is 30p, there is nothing to deinterlace since it is progressive already. But if you are putting that footage on a 24p timeline it will look odd.
Question is going to be how are you viewing this footage and what are you settings. There are no options for DVCProHD imports that you can change in Log and Transfer, so if you are changing something is isn;t doing anything.
