Why does metadata say 60 if I shot 30P
on Sep 3, 2009 at 2:01:57 am

I recently shot on the HVX200 at 720 30P yet the editor reports that in the metadata it says 60. I noticed when shooting it says 60 even though the Mode Check shows 30P. Does anyone knoe why it does this?

Thank you,

Ned

What metadata are you referring to? If you are talking about the codec, the official name of the codec from Apple is 720p60 DVCPro HD. You have to look in the frame rate column to see the actual frame rate in FCP.

There's also a chance that you shot 30p over 60p in which case the frame rate really is 60 and you have 2:2 pulldown in your footage. You can remove this pulldown easily in FCP on import.

If you are talking about the MXF metadata, the edit unit should report 30 (or more accurately 1001/30000) and the frame rate should be 29.97 if you shot 30pN.

Yup... if you shoot anything 720p it's going to be over a 60p stream, with pulldown if appropriate.

If you shot 720pN then you'll only have the number of frames you selected (thus the space savings).

Hi Adam,

So even though it's "over 60" it's really 30P? Isn't everything on a HVX 200 "over 60"? Thx

[Ned Miller] "Isn't everything on a HVX 200 "over 60"? Thx"

Not if you shoot in pN mode instead of just p.
